Transform a Shape into a Fruit : The Coconut
Fall 2022
Graphic Design + Plastic, cardboard, paper, tape
Created for my freshman year Materials Construction class, this project required translating a geometric shape into a physical object through template making, plaster casting, and exterior skin fabrication — a genuine challenge, as it was my first experience with this kind of physical building. I selected a hexagonal prism as the base geometry and chose to represent a coconut as the final form. After constructing the cast using foam board templates, I developed a custom surface material made from layered, criss-crossed packing tape, whose rough texture and natural coloration closely evoke the tactile qualities of a coconut's exterior. The project was accompanied by axonometric, orthographic, and exploded view drawings documenting the full fabrication and assembly process.
