Arctic Defrost

Fall 2020

Fashion design

Plush fabric, dye

Arctic Defrost is a junior year high school piece created for my AP 3D Art and Design portfolio, inspired by a David Attenborough documentary on climate change. The oversized blue garment, constructed from plush ruffled fabric, mirrors the cascading waves formed as Arctic icebergs melt — its enveloping scale deliberately evoking the sensation of drowning in an environmental crisis. The absorbent fabric, which visibly absorbed dye during production, serves as a metaphor for ongoing conservation efforts to combat rising sea levels. The piece was photographed and styled by me, with location chosen to reinforce its environmental message.
