Outbreak
Winter 2020

Outbreak is a junior year high school piece created for my AP Art portfolio, combining over 130 handmade virus balls and nearly 14 yards of tulle to visualize the intersection of COVID-19 and the surge of anti-Asian racism. The viral imagery serves as a dual metaphor — representing both a literal infection and the systemic racism that spread alongside it. My Korean-Chinese cousin models the piece, her confident and playful poses embodying resilience and defiance in the face of discrimination. The photoshoot, including location, was personally curated to reinforce the work's themes of strength, resistance, and cultural pride.
