Reflection is a piece created during my freshman semester at Parsons in Visual Culture Studio class, serving as a tribute to my Chinese heritage through the symbolism of lanterns. Each lantern represents a distinct facet of my family's identity — their travels across Asia, Africa, and Europe; careers spanning the arts, medicine, and finance; Confucian values passed down through generations; and the academic institutions attended by family members. At the center of the composition, a lantern is dedicated to my grandmother Annie, celebrating her legacy and influence. Together, the piece forms a personal, illuminated portrait of my family's history and the values that have shaped me.
