Political PJ's
Fall 2020
Fashion design
Satin, tulle, elastic, coated cardstock, autodesk sketchbook
As someone deeply engaged in politics, I designed a two-piece pajama set that reflects the division of the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The garment symbolizes emotional exhaustion with the political landscape, representing the experience of “falling asleep” amid ongoing ideological conflict.
To expand the narrative, I created a custom playing card deck illustrating key institutions — including the White House, Capitol, and Supreme Court — with opposing political figures positioned against each other, such as Biden vs. Trump and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez vs. Mitch McConnell. Some cards also feature media symbolism through CNN vs. Fox News imagery.
Mailbox-shaped purses reference the debate over mail-in ballots, while a large custom card box printed with phrases like “GAME ON” and “GAME OF WAR: COVID-19 POLITICS,” alongside donkey and elephant motifs, reinforces the theme of political conflict. Together, the elements explore how national division permeates everyday life, even moments of rest.
